Our Story
Ginkgo BioWorks was founded in 2008 by five MIT PhDs. The mission is to make biology easy to engineer. Only when biological engineering is fast and predictable will we fulfill the potential of biological technologies to revolutionize the provision of food, medicine, energy, and materials.
Our offices and lab space are located in the Marine Industrial Park in Boston (with a beautiful view of the harbor!).
To reach us via public transport: Take the Red Line to South Station and get on the SL2 Silver Line bus outbound (make sure you do not get on the SL1 or "Silver Line Way" bus). Get off at the 25 Drydock stop (~5 min ride, five stops after "Silver Line Way") and enter at 27 Drydock Ave. Take the elevators to the 8th floor. When you get off the elevators, turn left twice and walk down the hall past the loading elevators to reach our offices.
To reach us via car: There is metered parking (that accepts credit cards) available right outside the building. Our entrance (27 Drydock) is at the end of the large Design Center Building nearest to the harbor.
